Rhode Island’s Statewide Giving Event: 2023 401Gives

Rhode Island Blood Center is thrilled to announce that we will participate in Rhode Island’s statewide, annual, and extraordinary giving day, "401Gives”. Mark your calendars, because this incredible 72-hour event kicks off this Friday, March 31st at 6 PM and runs through Monday, April 3rd at 6 PM. This year, RIBC aims to raise $2,500 through 401Gives. Charitable gifts made between now and a week after the event will still count towards our overall goal.
Can you imagine what life would be like if the work RIBC did, stopped tomorrow? Rhode Island Blood Center is an indispensable component of disaster preparedness for our communities' partners, hospitals, and patients. There is no substitute for the vital role played by RIBC in meeting this essential need.
Financial gift makes an immediate and direct impact and will save lives by enabling us to increase blood donations and expand our lifesaving mission in our local community. The money raised will go towards:
- RIBC Annual Fund
To deliver what matters most to our generous blood donors, blood drive sponsors, hospital and clinic partners, and others throughout the healthcare industry, funding is needed for everyday lifesaving operations. Your financial donation provides RIBC with the flexibility to allocate resources towards our most immediate needs, which allows us to provide the greatest impact on our community. With the blood donation landscape changing, RIBC faces increased expenditures related to operating our donor centers as well as expanding blood donor recruitment.
- Youth Programs
In the last five years, we’ve seen a 10% decrease in blood donations from 16-18 years old, and a 15% decrease from individuals 19-24 years old. High schools, colleges, and the education sectors play a crucial role in supporting the local and national blood supply, which is why RIBC is dedicated to educating and inspiring the youth community to become the next generation of blood donors and scientific leaders.
Your financial donation goes directly towards making a local and national impact in the youth community by enabling us to provide scholarship and leadership opportunities for students. Our scholarships and seminars foster leadership skills through volunteerism and community service, and exposure to STEM careers shaping the landscape of global healthcare and scientific discovery.
- Updated Blood Donor Centers
Since the pandemic, blood donor behavior has shifted. Prior to 2020, 50% of our blood collections came from community blood drives, with 50% from donor centers. We are now collecting 35% from community blood drives and 65% in donor centers. Your financial donation will support the upgrades to current centers.
Individual and corporate donations are also crucial and will help us maintain and expand these fixed blood donor sites through building upgrades, signage, privacy screens, underwriting, naming rights, and sponsorships.
- New and Updated 2023 Blood Donor Bus
Buses allow us to serve communities that may not have a physical location to host a blood drive or to help us host smaller drives. Your major gift towards a Donor Bus will allow RIBC to provide access to an expanded population and diverse neighborhoods. Our buses can be branded with sponsor logos, showcasing the sponsor’s commitment to public health and blood science throughout the Rhode Island area.
